Police Department's Annual Bike Ride for Special Olympics Illinois Returns August 30th

ORLAND PARK, IL (July 22, 2020) --- The Orland Park Police Department's late summer bike ride to benefit Special Olympics Illinois returns Sunday, August 30. The ride begins and ends at Fattie's Pub located at 14420 John Humphrey Drive.

Check-in and registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the ride begins at 7:30 a.m.  The ride is open to those ages 12 and up.  Cost is $25 per person and all proceeds benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

Pre-registration is available until Friday, August 28. Register online at https://do.nr/wh2ph or in person utilizing the form obtainable from the Village Hall, the Police Station, and from the Village's website at https://bit.ly/2OLb7g1.

"The police department bike ride is a great event --- it's a beautiful ride through Orland Park and nearby forest preserves and for a great cause," said Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau.

The 15-mile course will travel through Orland Park and will then connect with the Tinley Creek Forest Preserve Trails. A water stop is held midway through the ride.

Refreshments will be available and a complimentary breakfast buffet with soft drinks and coffee will be available at Fattie's Pub after the ride.

"Each summer, many people look forward to this event and it seems to be a community favorite," said Chief Tim McCarthy. "It's not a race, rather a leisurely paced bike ride and everyone remains together as a group," the chief said, adding that all participants are expected to wear bicycle helmets.

Online registration is encouraged. Those returning forms in person must return forms to the Orland Park Police Department at 15100 South Ravinia Avenue or to the Village Hall at 14700 South Ravinia Avenue by Friday, August 28. Cash, checks and credit cards may be used to register with checks made payable to Special Olympics Illinois.
