Village of Orland Park Reaches Agreement with Hope Covenant Church Regarding Safety Issues

ORLAND PARK, IL (December 2, 2019) – A unanimous decision by the Village Board on Wednesday, November 27 solidified an agreement between The Village of Orland Park and Hope Covenant Church regarding the outstanding safety issues that allow for the continuation of the overnight shelter.

Per the agreement, Hope Covenant Church has agreed to comply with all applicable Village code requirements, making necessary changes and updates to the facility to ensure the safety of all its  guests. In turn, the Village has agreed to allow Hope Covenant Church to continue to operate the  shelter during the code compliance process.

The Village is actively collaborating with the Church to ensure a safe environment for those utilizing the one night per week overnight accommodations in the seasonal shelter. Additionally, the Village has agreed to waive all permit fees associated with the process as a gesture of good will.

“The health, safety and well-being of those staying overnight at Hope Covenant Church has always been our primary goal. This agreement ensures all necessary steps will be taken to satisfy the Village’s safety concerns while still providing a warm and safe shelter for those in need,” said Village of Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau.
